Early Birds Radio - Unique insect research with special cameras

19 May 2019

Early birds: "In the Netherlands, a major study into the decline of insects was started this week. It is a world first. Hundreds of specially designed camera traps will measure which insects pass by at different places in town, nature and countryside. The special thing about these cameras is that they work with image recognition. The technique behind the automatic cameras has been trained with thousands of photos of insects from amateurs and professionals who made the images available on waarneming.nl. At the same time the weight (biomass) of the insects is measured".
